Demonstrating that hydro electricity generation and the Department of Conservation can work well together, a small scale “run of river” 1.89 megawatt generator system on public conservation land in South Westland is approved. No dam, just smart thinking.

The Auditor General comes out with a really good report on freshwater, stormwater, and drinking water, and puts government, local government and the big users on notice: “Given the significance of water issues, what we expected to find: clear national strategies … coherent work programmes … robust systems … resourcing, planning and strategic risk management … and strong engagement models with communities and in particular Maori. The Big Man in Red appreciates a good community newspaper, with its tales of good people doing good things, its celebrations of successes big and small, its annual commitment to chronicling the holiday traditions of its readers.

The Michigan State Police Gladstone Post is teaming up with the Marinette County Sheriff Department, Jack s Fresh Market and the Salvation Army to Stuff A Blue Goose and provide much needed food donations to families in need for this holiday season.
On Friday, Dec. 18 from noon to 6 p.m. CST, troopers will be collecting non-perishable food items at Jack s Fresh Market in Menominee. Additionally, Jack s Fresh Market will be making some pre-packaged bags containing nonperishable food items that you can purchase for donation.
At the same, the Marinette County Sheriff Department will be at the Jack s Fresh Market in Marinette (on Roosevelt Rd). The Salvation Army based in Marinette, Wisconsin covers both Marinette, Wisconsin and Menominee, Michigan. So we thought a friendly competition with another police agency would be a great idea to help the local communities in both states!
