Major recreation projects completed in Drouin and Neerim South
Baw Baw Shire Council joined Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing MP and members of the community to celebrate the completion of two major recreation projects on Saturday.
Significant upgrades to the Drouin Netball Courts and the Neerim South Oval were undertaken over the past year in consultation with local sporting clubs.
Drouin Netball Court Upgrade
The project focussed on courts three to six at the Drouin Recreation Reserve, home to the Drouin and District Netball Association and Drouin Hawks Netball Club, who run competitions all year round.
The project solved safety and compliance issues concerning the court sizes and layout, provided an upgraded drainage system, pedestrian access ramps, player shelters, height adjustable goal posts as well as a suite of peripheral items such as upgrades to boundary fences, retaining walls and footpaths.

MELBOURNE
More than 100 years of precious footy memories
Well done the National Trust for highlighting the significance of the Jack Dyer Stand in the face of its demolition by Richmond Football Club as part of Punt Road Oval’s re-development (Sport, 21/4). The stand is over 100years old and has witnessed much of football history, as well as being the former home of the Richmond Cricket Club. Spectators have watched their heroes play from here. Memories of premierships are well and truly etched in its fabric.
Melbourne s air has been infused by the smell of smoke over the past few days, with many wondering why.
According to VicEmergency, residents in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula may see or smell smoke due to a number of planned burns taking place across Victoria.
The health message was issued yesterday at 12.24pm, reassuring people there was no immediate threat to the community and no action required.
