No water passage through Tarmonbarry lock

Waterways Ireland wishes to notify masters of vessels and waterways users that emergency repair works to the lock gates at Tarmonbarry are ongoing and due to increased work scope identified when the lock was dewatered will not be completed until 28th May 2021.
Passage through Tarmonbarry lock, Co Roscommon will not be possible during this period.
An alternative route via the Camlin River is available. Masters of vessels are advised to check their airdraft prior to undertaking the passage on the Camlin River due to the low bridge on the N5 road.

AN INCREASED AMOUNT of litter has been spotted at public areas in recent weeks, with the improved weather and outdoor social meetings a possibility for many people.
As a result, Dublin City Council (DCC) has called for people to “act responsibly” and either use bins to discard their litter, or bring their rubbish home if there’s no bin available.
The restoration of the Ulster Canal has entered the second phase following the announcement by the Republic of Ireland government of an intial €12million funding to restore the canal between Clones and Clonfad in Co. Monaghan. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Taoiseach, Micheál Martin and the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys and has been hailed as a symbol of peace and reconciliation. The investment is supported jointly by the Shared Island Fund and Rural Regeneration Development Fund. 40 berth marina Phase Two will comprise of incorporating a canal basin marina and amenity area in Clones along with a new 40 berth marina, access bridges and towpaths, walking and cycling routes, the refurbishment of masonry arch bridge and tourism and recreation facilities.

Work began in late February on the River Shannon gates after issues were identified at the busy waterways. Engineers has expressed concerns that the gate could collapse into the lock after significant damage was noticed in recent months.
It was hoped the work would be completed by the end of April but Waterways Ireland has confirmed that due to increased work scope identified when the lock was dewatered , the repairs will not be completed until the 28th of May.

Longford Bridge, Ballymahon in Co Longford on the Royal Canal Greenway
On the Shannon Navigation and Shannon-Erne Waterway, the winter mooring period will end on this date and the five-day mooring rule will be in force.
Locks on will be open normal summer hours (9am to 8.30pm on weekdays, 9am to 6pm on Sundays on the Shannon Navigation; 9am to 8pm daily on the Shannon-Erne) and service blocks will also reopen.
An exception applies to the lock gates at Tarmonbarry on the Shannon Navigation, which remain closed for continued emergency repair works until Friday 28 May. Passage through the lock will not be possible during this period but an alternative route via the Camlin River is available.
