3 educationists appointed as national professors 282 DHAKA, May 6, 2021 (BSS) – The government has appointed three eminent educationists of the country as national professors for the next five years. The newly appointed national professors are former Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University and emeritus professor Dr Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BIRDEM) President Dr A K Azad Khan and Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society (BGS) President Professor Dr Mahmud Hasan. The Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification in this regard today. The eminent educationists would perform duty as national professor and get honorarium and other benefits as per the Bangladesh National Professor Resolution (appointment, conditions and facilities) 1981, it said.

They are Professor Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin, Professor AK Azad Khan, and Professor Mahmud Hasan. The Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday. Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin is a reputed professor of history and a former Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University. A Barrister-at-law, he was an emeritus professor of the university. He also served as a UGC Professor. His scholarly writings are considered as assets for students, legal academicians and historians. AK Azad Khan is the President of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS). As the founder President of Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society, he organised Gastroenterology services in the country. In response, I offer what medical advice I can regarding Covid tests, treatment and follow-up, but can t oblige the requests of help with admissions in hospital beds, especially in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs). There are no vacancies anywhere, it seems. The increasing frequency of the news of deaths of near and dear ones is unnerving and unsettling. A year on, and we re back to square one. It has been a little more than a year since the first coronavirus cases were detected in Bangladesh, but the same, if not deeper, challenges and uncertainties remain.
