BBQ, Burgers, Fresh Air: Safely Dining Around Greater Waterbury

BBQ, Burgers, Fresh Air: Safely Dining Around Greater Waterbury This past weekend saw National-level live music return to Connecticut with the Gov t Mule shows at the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven. As Covid-19 levels continue to drop, public restrictions are being lifted almost weekly. I started thinking as I was enjoying a meal this past Sunday afternoon at a newer BBQ restaurant in Waterbury about how all businesses have had to adapt, in some way, during the pandemic. So many dining establishments sat stagnant over the past year, and those that haven t? They re disappearing. Around here, Down the Hatch, and JJ Stacks have a lot of open air dining, Frankie s on Watertown Avenue, and Southbury s Denmo s seemingly are ahead of the curve, having already had an outdoor dining model in place. Luckily, there are a couple in the greater Waterbury area that have recently adapted, and I thought you might be interested in hearing and seeing them.

For the Sealy Property: Commission Sets Public Hearing for Planned Development District

WATERTOWN — A newly proposed text amendment to the town’s zoning regulations, if approved, would create a Planned Development District for the old Sealy property in Oakville. The Planning and Zoning Commission, meeting Wednesday, April 7, set a Public Hearing on the proposal for Wednesday, May 5. The text amendment, filed by attorney Franklin Pilicy, would create a PDD that will provide for general commercial, rental, professional office space and residential uses on the parcel which was recently remediated and offered for sale.  The land was the site of a Sealy Mattress factory which was demolished in 2017. One of the stated goals of the text amendment is to encourage the orderly development of the site and “provide an opportunity for creative and flexible architectural design.” Another goal is to “provide a public benefit with improvements and improved access to the adjacent Veterans Memorial.”
