DHARWAD: Preparations are in place for counting of votes of the gram panchayat elections in the district. Counting will commence at the respective taluk headquarters at 8am on Wednesday.
DC Nitesh Patil told TOI on Tuesday that 744 personnel will be engaged in counting at seven centres in the district. The counting team includes 248 counting supervisors and 496 counting assistants who have already been trained in the process.
Adequate security measures have been taken, said Patil.

Steps being taken to get them tested for the new variant of the virus
Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil has said that the district administration had received information on 10 more persons who had returned to the district from the United Kingdom. Steps were being taken to get them tested for the new variant of the pandemic.
Speaking to presspersons in Hubballi on Wednesday, Mr. Nitesh Patil said that initially they had received information on 38 persons arriving here from the United Kingdom. “Already, we have got COVID-19 tests done on 36 persons. One person has gone to Kalaburagi and we have informed the Kalaburagi district administration to get the test done there for thim. Attempts are on to trace the other one,” he said.
Many government offices have not resumed using the biometric attendance system despite government order
HUBBALLI: The biometric attendance system which was suspended during lockdown is yet to be restarted in many government offices, even after the government issued an order torevert toit.
The use of the biometric attendance system was suspended fearing spread of the coronavirus 10 months ago.
The system has still not been brought into use except in a few offices.
Looking at the fall in Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru and the rest of Karnataka, the state government directed that the biometric attendance system be restarted in all government offices and also to make arrangements of sanitisers near biometric system devices.
After the new strain of coronavirus found in the UK, people with recent travel history to the United Kingdom are now quarantined and COVID-19 test results are awaited, according to the official, on Tuesday. Earlier today, a person had tested COVID-19 positive after arriving from the UK in Karnataka. The person is kept under observation by the authorities. I came to know about a person who tested positive after arriving from the UK. We are following all guidelines. Whoever will come from the UK will be tested at the airport. There is no need to impose night curfew in Karnataka , said Chief Minister of Karnataka B.S. Yediyurappa.
