Observing that the citizens must know how sensitive cases are being probed by prime agencies in the country, the Bombay High Court on Friday asked the CBI and the state SIT to spell out exactly when it would complete the investigations into the killings of rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare.
Notably, the petitions seeking HC-monitored probe in the killings, came up for hearing before a bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Manish Pitale after more than a year s time.

Mumbai: Observing that equitable and equal are two different concepts, the Bombay high court on Monday quashed two orders passed by a special court that had ordered the Maharashtra government to equally distribute the amount recovered by selling the assets of accused in the NSEL scam. The HC has ordered the government to distribute the amounts of Rs 40 crore and Rs 35 crore to around 6,445 investors, who have investments between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
A bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Manish Pitale said the special court erred in interpreting the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, 1999, by ordering the equal distribution of Rs 35 crore to over 12,000 investors - the total number of those who were duped.

In a temporary respite for Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami, the Bombay High Court granted him interim protection from any coercive action by the Raigad Police in the architect suicide case. The HC even granted him exemption from physically appearing before the Alibaug Magistrate Court, with regards to this case.
A bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Manish Pitale allowed Arnab not to attend the court proceedings in Alibaug, with regards to the suicide case of Anvay Naik, who alleged that the anchor abetted his suicide.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Legislature on Friday extended till the last day of next session the time for the privileges committee to submit its report on breach of privilege notices against Arnab and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. A proposal for deadline extension was moved in the Assembly by privileges committee chairman Deepak Kesarkar.
As per the facts of the case, the biological parents had approached the bench led by Justice Shinde seeking custody of their son, who was presently living with his maternal grandmother in Nashik
