Mumbai: Threatening an individual to return the loan amount borrowed would not pose any threat to public order, held the Bombay High Court recently while quashing a detention order issued against a 54-year-old man. The HC further held that breach of prohibitory orders owing to the pandemic, would also not call for a detention order.
A bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Makarand Karnik was seized with an application filed by one Lakshman Jadhav, a resident of Solapur challenging the detention orders passed against him by the city s Commissioner of Police.

TRP Scam Case: Happy Ending for Republic TV as Mumbai Police won t take coercive action

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Wednesday told the Bombay High Court that it won t take any coercive action against the office bearers of the ARG Outlier Media group that runs Republic TV channels till January first week, in connection with the TRP scam case. The HC meanwhile, allowed Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami to challenge the chargesheet filed against him in the suicide case of architect Anvay Singh.
A bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Makarand Karnik was dealing with a bunch of petitions filed by the media house, Arnab and other employees of the group seeking several reliefs primarily to transfer the probe in both the cases to the CBI.
Plea seeking suspension of Kangana Ranaut s Twitter handle is baseless: Maha Govt tells HC

The Maharashtra government on Thursday urged the Bombay High Court not to entertain a petition seeking to suspend the Twitter handle of actress Kangana Ranaut. The HC has however, adjourned the matter till Monday.
The state urged a bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Makarand Karnik not to entertain the writ petition filed by advocate Kashif Khan seeking directives to Twitter to permanently suspend Kangana s handle from the social media platform.
Jayesh Yagnik, the public prosecutor for state told the bench that the reliefs sought in the plea are vague and cannot be granted in writ jurisdiction.
ED asked if it could defer recording statements of Lawyers Collective members
The trust urged the bench to adjourn the matter beyond Christmas and New Year vacations.
However, the additional solicitor general Anil Singh for the ED opposed the request and urged the bench not to allow any relief to the trust till January.
Singh said that the agency s officers were ready to come down to Mumbai from Delhi and record the statements of various persons related to the case.
The bench, however, sought to know why couldn t ED wait till the next date.
The judges have accordingly adjourned the matter till December 22 for ED s response.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a plea filed by NGO Lawyers Collective challenging the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case.
A bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Makarand Karnik was seized with a plea filed by the NGO run by senior advocates Indira Jaising and her husband Anand Grover, challenging the summons issued by the ED.
The trust urged the bench to adjourned the matter beyond Christmas and New Year vacations.
However, the additional solicitor general Anil Singh for the ED, opposed the request and urged the bench not to allow any relief to the trust till January.
