A COUNTY Limerick truck driver was saved from being sent to prison for allowing a third party use his driver card because he looks after his elderly mother.
Donal Noonan, of Old Street, Galbally appeared before Judge Alan Mitchell in Kilmallock Court. He pleaded guilty to a number of summonses in relation to allowing his driver card be used on a number of dates.
Aidan Tierney, an inspector with the Road Safety Authority (RSA), said he stopped a heavy goods vehicle in Loughrea, County Galway on October 1, 2018.
Mr Tierney said he carried out an inspection of the tachograph. He said it was Mr Noonan’s driver’s card in the tachograph but Mr Noonan wasn’t driving the vehicle.

A Ballymahon man who stole Buckfast from a local supermarket has been handed a once month prison sentence, suspended for three years following last week’s sitting of Longford District Court.
David O’Leary, with addresses at 2 St Matthews’ Park, Ballymahon, and 2A Moy Mews, Ballymahon, had been in custody for three weeks when he appeared before Judge Hughes.
That was due to the number of bench warrantsthat had been issued for the defendant following a number of failures to appear.
“He accepts the matter and is awaiting sentence today,” solicitor for the defence, Frank Gearty explained.

KNOX COUNTY Before the Knox County Fiscal Court s meeting was called to order Tuesday, Judge-Executive Mike Mitchell asked that those in attendance observe a moment of silence in honor of former Judge-Executive Carnell Sprinkles who recently passed away.
Sprinkles served as Knox County judge-executive from 1986-1989, and served as the chairman of the board at the Cumberland Valley Area Development District at that time. Carnell was an active member of the community, a business leader, noted Mitchell.
Knox County Clerk Mike Corey then led the court in a prayer following the moment of silence.
