ADVERTISEMENT IBM Can Use Appeal Bond To Stall $11M Retaliation Suit Award Law360 (May 24, 2021, 7:32 PM EDT) IBM Corp. can use a $14.6 million bond to pause on paying a former sales executive s $11 million award while it appeals a jury s finding that he was fired for complaining that a coworker had faced discrimination, a Washington federal judge said Monday. U.S. District Judge Marsha J. Pechman accepted IBM s supersedeas bond, allowing the company to wait until after its Ninth Circuit appeal to pay ex-manager Scott Kingston s April 15 jury award. The jury ruled that Kingston was canned in retaliation for reporting that a Black sales representative was unfairly deprived of the bulk of his commission check.

SACRAMENTO – CARB Executive Officer Richard W. Corey announced the appointment of Craig Segall as the Deputy Executive Officer (DEO) of Mobile Sources and Incentives. In his new role, Segall will play a key role in leading the effort to electrify the transportation sector and address long-standing transportation inequities to achieve California’s clean air, community protection and climate goals. “Craig has proven himself a passionate and effective leader in each role he has played at CARB,” said Corey. “He will be a vital element of CARB’s efforts to transform California’s cars and trucks to zero-emission technologies over the coming decade and beyond. He is also committed to ensuring that all Californians – especially those in communities hardest hit by vehicle pollution – can benefit from this transition to zero-emission vehicles and forward-looking mobility solutions.”

Professor Karteron is the Director of the Rutgers Constitutional Rights Clinic. Prior to joining Rutgers in September 2016, Professor Karteron was a senior attorney at the New York Civil Liberties Union. At the NYCLU, she litigated complex constitutional cases involving police reform, the school-to-prison pipeline, the First Amendment, and voting rights. While at the NYCLU, Karteron served as lead counsel in one of three cases challenging the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk practices. Prior to joining the NYCLU, Karteron served as White House Associate Staff Secretary from 2009 to 2010. From 2007 to 2009, she was an assistant counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, where she litigated voting rights cases in the federal courts, including the Supreme Court.
