Former Whitefield State Senator Jeff Woodburn was sentenced to 60 days in jail Tuesday on domestic violence charges from 2018 that include biting his then-domestic partner.
In May, a Coos County jury convicted Woodburn, 56, on four charges, dismissing five others.
Woodburn has maintained he acted in self-defense and hoped to avoid jail time. Meanwhile, prosecutors asked Judge Peter Bornstein to require Woodburn to begin serving his sentence immediately. After his trial, Woodburn said he felt vindicated because jurors had dismissed most of the charges he faced. Citing those comments, prosecutors asked the judge to send Woodburn a message.
“It is clear the defendant lacks remorse,” prosecutors wrote in a pre-sentencing memo.

LANCASTER, NH The jury that will hear domestic violence-related charges against Jeffrey Woodburn of Whitefield was selected Wednesday in Coos Superior Court almost three years after he was arrested while still a sitting state Senator.
Woodburn, 55, a popular Democrat who lost the election following his arrest amid calls for his resignation from members of his own party, sat in the courtroom with his attorney Donna Brown of Manchester Wednesday during jury selection, but spoke only with Brown.

Attorneys for Britany Barron are scheduled to meet with the state Attorney General’s office to discuss a possible plea deal this week. Barron, of Jaffrey, is charged with three felony counts of tampering with evidence for allegedly helping her husband cover up the murder of Jonathan Amerault of Keene.
During a dispositional conference at the Coos Superior Court, held by teleconference on Monday, attorneys for both sides said they were working toward a possible plea agreement. The two sides are scheduled to meet Wednesday out of court to discuss a plea agreement and several other matters.

Britany Barron was doing what her husband told her to do when she cut the head off of her dead lover and dumped his body in a remote stream, and Judge Peter Bornstein said thatâs reason enough to keep her in jail pending trial.
âThe defendant did as her husband told her to do,â Bornstein said at Britany Barronâs bail hearing Monday. âThere is still a substantial risk the defendant will do as her husband tells her to do.â
Barron, 31, is charged with destroying evidence after her husband, Armando Barron, shot and killed her lover, Jonathan Amerault, 25, on Sept. 19, 2020, in Jaffrey.
