Judge Siraj Desai has been granted an extension to respond to a
complaint by the SA Zionist Federation.
It approached the Judicial Conduct Committee, claiming he breached the
Judicial Service Commission Act and Code of Judicial Conduct between 2009 and
2020.
Desai was appointed the Legal Services Ombud after his retirement last
year.

Desai s spokesperson, Professor Usuf Chikte, said his request for an
extension for his response date, initially set for this week, was approved and

Retired judges Willie Seriti and Hendrick Musi have challenged the constitutionality of the Judicial Service Commission Act, saying it is unconstitutional in that it allows judicial misconduct complaints against retired judges. We are aggrieved that we have to be put through a complaint process when we have long retired, said Seriti in a founding affidavit.
