Jhalsa forms war rooms to help people in distress amid rising Cov figures | Ranchi News

Representational image RANCHI: With the second wave of the pandemic here, the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (Jhalsa) established a central ‘war room’ in Ranchi and other units in the districts which will be operational for 24x7 to help people in distress, mainly those who need Covid-related assistance. Under the leadership of it executive chairman, Justice Aparesh Kumar of the high court, Jhalsa has come out with a new standard operating procedure for the district legal services authorities (DLSA) across the state to help patients affected with Covid. Meetings were also held with the chief secretary and other department secretaries by Singh to streamline the programme. “Our para legal volunteers are a trained work force and can be utilised for the benefit of the government. The present spate of the pandemic has crippled the system. A response on a phone call and ensuring assistance to the people will help calm the situation,” Jhalsa member secretary Muhammad Shakir

Legal body to assist life-term prisoners secure early release | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) in Ranchi has identified 80 life-term prisoners lodged in Birsa Munda Central jail who are eligible for early release by the Sentence Review Committee (SRC). Life-term prisoners, who have undergone 14 years of internment and 20 years with remission, are eligible to be freed. DLSA secretary Abhishek Kumar said, “We conducted a survey upon the direction of Justice H C Mishra, who is the executive chairman of Jharkhand Legal Service Authority, and the selected prisoners were informed of their early release.” The DLSA has already provided them legal advice and taken steps for facilitating the process for their release. The home and prison departments have also issued a resolution to this effect.

Jharkhand HC resumes offline hearings on trial basis | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Monday resumed the physical mode of hearing cases on an “experimental basis”. A division bench of Justice H C Mishra and Justice Rajesh Kumar took up 10 cases during the day at the court room. Registrar general Ambuj Nath later said the “experiment” has been successful as all Covid protocols were adhered to. He added that after Monday’s development, more courts should take up physical hearing of cases in the near future. The court room has been modified and double layers of glasses have been installed to separate the judges from court staff and advocates. All judges, advocates and staff have been asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing at the court premises, said a judicial officer.

Jhalsa disburses Rs 1 4k cr in 1 day | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (Jhalsa) has bagged a national and a world record for disbursing Rs 1,398.20 crore, the largest amount to be disbursed to beneficiaries in one day, after disposing of over 35,000 cases. The feat was achieved in a lok adalat held on November 26 to commemorate the 71st Constitution Day. The programme was organized via the virtual mode from the Nyay Sadan here. As many as 35,133 matters were decided in the lok adalat and Rs 1398.20 crore was disbursed to the beneficiaries. Compassionate appointment letters were also handed over to 497 candidates in the lok adalat, Jhalsa executive chairman Justice H C Mishra said on Sunday. While the national award has been presented by the India Book of Records, the certificate for achieving the world record has been presented by the World Records, India.
