NEW DELHI: There is total non-compliance by Twitter with the new Information Technology Rules of India, the Delhi high court said on Wednesday, wondering what the technology company wants to do does it want to comply or not?
The HC said the way Twitter has been conveying its stand was unacceptable and warned the platform it was making it worse for itself in the proceedings before court. I am not happy with this affidavit. You are not using the word ‘interim’ but are now using the word ‘contingent’. In fact, it sounds much worse. Appointment has been done from a third-party contractor, Justice Rekha Palli observed after examining the reply filed by Twitter Inc in which it referred to its new chief compliance officer (CCO) and resident grievance officer (RGO) as a contingent worker .

The Delhi High Court Wednesday said Twitter Inc was non-compliant with the new Information Technology (IT) Rules and expressed displeasure over the microblogging platform appointing a “contingent worker” as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO).
Justice Rekha Palli noted that while the rules mandated appointment of a key managerial person or a senior employee as CCO, Twitter disclosed in its affidavit that it had appointed a “contingent worker” through a third party contractor.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday pulled up Twitter Inc for appointing a “contingent worker” as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), saying the company had failed to comply with the IT Rules, 2021.
“I don’t know what your company wants to do. If you want to comply, do it wholeheartedly.I am giving you a long rope, but the court won’t do it forever,” Justice Rekha Palli said after perusing Twitter’s affidavits and posted the matter for further hearing on August 6.
