The Sindh High Court directed the relevant authorities on Wednesday to float tenders for canteens at government colleges.
It was hearing a plea challenging the termination of contracts for canteens at public colleges.
The counsel for the petitioners decried that the contracts, spanning over years, were terminated without any prior notice.
At this, the court noted that persons awarded contracts for canteen had been paying meagre sums, around Rs2,000.
Thereafter, the colleges additional director called to the court s attention that government colleges had been closed due to the pandemic, and assured that new tenders for canteens at the institutions would be floated soon.

The Sindh High Court annulled on Wednesday the notification informing of the suspension of appointments and transfers at the Karachi Development Authority. Irked at the suspension of salaries of KDA s Grade-17 officers, a two-member bench, led by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, directed the issuance of officers salaries from KDA accounts.

Hearing a plea seeking the implementation of fire safety laws, a two-member bench of Sindh High Court, headed by Justice Mazhar and comprising Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, gave the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) director general (DG) a last warning to appear before the court.
Irked at the DG’s absence, Justice Mazhar said, “The court had summoned the SBCA DG, not the SBCA technical director.”
At this, the counsel for the SBCA apologised to the court, assuring it that the DG would attend the next hearing.
The Sindh High Court was irked when the parties, in a plea pertaining to the installation of substandard compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders, shirked the responsibility to inspect the cylinders.
