KARACHI: A federal law officer on Friday informed the Sindh High Court that the Pakistan Islands Development Authority (PIDA) Ordinance had already lapsed.
Assistant Attorney General Hussain Bohra submitted this before a two-judge bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, during the hearing of a set of petitions challenging the vires of the recently promulgated PIDA Ordinance.
He submitted that the ordinance in question had already lapsed.
The bench adjourned the hearing on the matter till Jan 27 due to absence of the counsel for other petitioners.

Sukkur DIG Fida Hussain Mastoi informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday that the police had collected the samples of 124 suspects for DNA testing in the investigation of the rape and murder of the seven-year-old girl in Pir Jo Goth.
The DIG and Khairpur SSP Amir Saud Magsi also submitted a report on the case’s probe to a two-member bench of the high court, headed by SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh. The report included details on the arrests made in the case so far.
The Sindh High Court ordered on Thursday the repair of 10 fire tenders within the next 10 days and summoned the Sindh Building Control Authority director-general.

The Sindh High Court has sought a reply from the federal government on what it will be doing about Sindh s islands now that its islands ordinance has expired. The September 2, Pakistan Island Development Authority Ordinance 2020 expired on January 3, according to the assistant attorney general.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the case on the control of Sindhâs islands on Friday.
