The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that the PM-led High Powered Committee for the appointment of the CBI Director has not been able to convene so far on account of the absence of the leader of the single largest party in the Lok Sabha.
Annexing the letter addressed by the Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training to AG K. K. Venugopal in this behalf, the Centre has further communicated that since Mr. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, LoP, Lok Sabha has intimated that he shall be available only after May 2, it is only after such date that the committee can meet.

The Supreme Court s Artificial Intelligence Committee on Tuesday launched its Artificial Intelligence portal SUPACE(Supreme Court Portal for Assistance in Court s Efficiency). Judges.
The event was attended by CJI Bobde, CJI designate Justice NV Ramana and Justice Nageswara Rao, who is also the Chairman of the Supreme Court s AI Committee, and High Court Judges.
While launching the Court s Artificial Intelligence Portal, the CJI called the system a perfect blend of human intelligence and machine learning and a hybrid system , which works together with human intelligence.
He stated that the system being launched is unique as there is interaction between the human being and machine which creates remarkable results

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to consider holding a meeting of the selection committee for the appointment of a regular CBI Director before May 2, saying the interim arrangement can’t go on.
“The in-charge arrangements for CBI director cannot go on. There is a point in what Mr (Prashant) Bhushan says”, Justice Nageswara Rao told Attorney General KK Venugopal after the top law officer said the selection committee meeting was likely to take place on May 2.
However, the Bench told the government to hold it earlier and posted the matter for further hearing next Friday.

The Supreme Court on Monday orally remarked that interim appointments of the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) cannot go on.
A bench comprising
Justices L Nageswara Rao and Vineet Saran was hearing a petition filed by NGO Common Cause seeking the appointment of a regular director for the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The public interest litigation opposes the appointment of Mr. Praveen Sinha as an interim / acting CBI Director, after expiry of the term of the last incumbent viz. Mr. Rishi Kumar Shukla on February 2 this year.
