Moore, in a lengthy and eloquent victim impact statement, told a Calgary court earlier this week about the devastating impact the killing of his younger brother, Jordan, has had on him and their family.
But Moore also took time to express his anger at the Crown’s office, for agreeing to accept a manslaughter plea from the man who took his brother’s life, Jermaine Bailey.
CALGARY The family of a Calgary man fatally shot in 2019 while trying to protect a friend from making a poor decision say they only found out about a plea deal two weeks ago. “My whole family felt entirely blindsided,” said Jason Moore, the brother of victim Jordan Moore. “For the last two plus years of consistent message from the prosecutors office was, we have a good case for first-degree murder,” said Moore, who added that the Crown did say the case was mainly circumstantial evidence. Jermaine Bailey’s trial for first-degree murder was set to begin Monday Instead, the 32-year-old pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

One of two brothers charged in the fatal shooting of a Calgary man in the city’s northwest pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter.

Moore, 34, was found in an alley behind the 100 block of 15 Street N.W. just after midnight on Jan. 22 that year, after police were called to the area for reports of an injured man suffering from a gunshot wound.
