Mandy Power named as new Dawson County Chamber President Mandy Power The Dawson County Chamber of Commerce has officially named Mandy Power, a local banking leader, as its new president. Power, a long-time resident of Dawson County, will assume her new role overseeing  day-to-day operations of the Chamber of Commerce, the Office of Tourism Development and the Dawson County Development Authority on Jan. 5, 2021, following the departure of current chamber president Christie Moore.  “I am incredibly humbled and honored to be leading the Chamber, Office of Tourism and Economic Development into the next chapter,” Power said in the release. “I have very big shoes to fill as Christie Moore has left a giant imprint on this community. I love Dawson County as this is the place my husband and I have chosen to raise our children and have had the privilege of working at for the past 12 years.”

Schools - Olson & Niemela: 3 projects need to get done Mike Christopherson Crookston Times     Crookston School District Superintendent Jeremy Olson and district Buildings, Grounds and Transportation Coordinator Rick Niemela say a trio of building and facilities-related projects need to get done in the next year.     After hearing each one detailed, the district’s Long-Range Planning Committee recommended that Niemela continue to gather information on estimated costs and specifications so that the projects can be tackled next summer.     The projects are:     • New fencing and wind screening around the tennis complex at the high school, and the resurfacing of the courts themselves: Niemela said the wind tipped over a section of the fencing last year, and that wind and frost continue to pull the posts up to a foot out of the ground. New guidelines require a heavier post for the wind screen, he explained, and they now need to be pounded 14 feet into the ground, up

Washington School likely closed within 10 years, Olson says Mike Christopherson Crookston Times     As part of his efforts to keep Crookston School District decision-makers looking five to 10 years into the future, Superintendent Jeremy Olson told the district’s Long-Range Planning Committee that Washington School, which he said is “toward the end of its lifecycle,” that he doesn’t think the school will be open in 10 years.     It’s not necessarily because of a continued decline in enrollment in Crookston Public Schools, he stressed, but mostly because it’s by far the district’s oldest school building, and that if it’s going to remain open indefinitely, significant investments are going to need to be made in the building.
