Library emerging from pandemic with new services and amenities

Mike Christopherson Crookston Times     When Crookston Public Library Branch Manager Chris Boike talks about the COVID-19 pandemic’s widespread, devastating impact in 2020, she doesn’t mince words.     “I mean, it was the worst, right?” she said. “Wouldn’t you agree it was one of the worst years ever?”     But it’s not impossible to find some silver linings, even in a pandemic that kills millions worldwide and almost 600,000 people, and counting, in the United States. Things like families stuck at home growing closer, and rediscovering nature and the great outdoors and all of the activities outside that they can partake in, even during a pandemic. And, forced to find new, helpful resources in their communities, people turned to places like their local library.

Board set to approve Martinez as CHS principal Mike Christopherson Crookston Times     Crookston Public Schools has made an offer to Nicki Martinez to be the next Crookston High School principal and she has verbally accepted. The school board meets on Monday, April 26 and a resolution on the agenda will be to approve her hiring.     Martinez is currently the assistant principal at Laporte Public Schools, a position she’s held for the past two years. Laporte is a small town located in Hubbard County, southeast of Polk County. Prior to her current position, she taught English in the Detroit Lakes School District for 19 years.

3 interview for CHS principal Mike Christopherson Crookston Times     Three finalists for the Crookston High School principal position vacancy created by Eric Bubna’s resignation interviewed for the second time on Friday, April 16.     The finalists include one internal candidate, Matt Torgerson, who started four years ago as a band instructor at CHS before transitioning into the dean of students position, and then into his current position, assistant principal.     The other two finalists are:     • Kent Hendrickson, who’s been principal at the Ulen-Hitterdal School for 21 years and also a physical education teacher     • Nicki Martinez, who’s been an assistant principal in LaPorte, Minn. for the past two years. Prior to that she taught English in the Detroit Lakes School District for 19 years.
