According to police, the victim, who has not been identified, was crossing Artesia Boulevard northbound near a crosswalk on the west side of the intersection. Police said the woman was crossing against a red signal and a “don’t walk” pedestrian signal.
A 1997 BMW driven by a 29-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was driving westbound on Artesia Boulevard, struck the woman as she crossed the street, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Orange Avenue around 9:14 p.m.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel performed life-saving measures on the victim, who was lying in the roadway west of the intersection. First responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries, police said.
