The crash occurred just after the shop closed for the day. Two cars were involved, and one patient was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to authorities. At the scene, firefighters also encountered a sheared fire hydrant, according to LBFD spokesman Capt. Jack Crabtree. Update 5/6/2021 On May 6, 2021 at approximately 8:30 a.m., Special Investigation Detectives located and arrested Charles Ray Jones, a 44-year-old individual experiencing homelessness in Long Beach. He was arrested on the 100 block of the Promenade. Jones was booked on one count of murder and is currently being held on $2,000,000 bail in the Long Beach City Jail. Through their investigation, detectives discovered evidence linking Jones to the fatal Oct. 6, 2020 stabbing of a male adult victim. The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Nilton Cardoso, an individual experiencing homelessness in Long Beach. Cardoso and Jones were known to each other and may have been involved in a dispute when the assault occurred. The investigation remains active as detectives determine whether more persons were involved in the attack.

Robber knocks victim unconscious near MacArthur Park, police said • Long Beach Post News

- ADVERTISEMENT - Officers responded to a call reporting a robbery at about 7 p.m. in the 1400 block of Cherry Avenue near a bakery in the MacArthur Park area, police said. Upon arrival, police said they discovered a man who had sustained an injury to his head. Police said that two men had approached the victim and struck him on the head with a “blunt object” and knocked him unconscious. Once he regained consciousness, the victim discovered that his money and cell phone had been stolen, LBPD Lt. Ryan Watson said. The Long Beach Fire Department was on the scene to treat his injuries, but the victim was not taken to the hospital, police said.
