Updated: 8:28 PM EST Jan 20, 2021 WXII12.com Web Staff Emergency crews and law enforcement took part in a motorcade for longtime Surry County Emergency Services Director John Shelton Wednesday.Shelton was found dead in his home Sunday evening, sources confirm.Click the video player above to see the procession.His body was escorted from Raleigh back to Mount Airy. The motorcade traveled along Interstate 40 to Highway 52 to NC 89 and arrived at Moody s Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Overpasses had first responders honoring Shelton. Community residents lined the exit ramps with American flags from the Pinnacle exit in Stokes County to the exit for NC 89 in Surry County. Surry County Government is very saddened to learn of the passing of Emergency Services Director John Shelton.
