The average daily count, which stood at 1,500 till two weeks ago, has now come down to 600-800. The district reported 679 new cases on Thursday, out of 4,829 samples. Currently, 11,842 persons are recovering from COVID in the district. Of these, 1,472 persons have been admitted to hospital while 1,021 persons are being treated at COVID Care Centres. The remaining 9,349 persons are in home isolation with mild symptoms. The district’s total caseload stands at 1,06,862.

Intensive vehicle checking in Kozhikode to prevent non-emergency trips

Police squads active at 51 points within city limits A three-day special vehicle checking drive is under way in Kozhikode city to ensure that all motorists follow lockdown regulations. The drive ordered by District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.V. George will ensure that no non-emergency service enters the city limits in the wake of the heightened vigil against the pandemic. A team of Assistant Commissioners and Station House Officers will lead the drive and instantly impound vehicles used for non-emergency purposes. Such impounded vehicles will be released only after the lockdown period on payment of the pre-fixed fine. The squads will also ensure that no emergency services are interrupted during the flash checking hours.

The personnel on the 18 scooters will patrol their respective jurisdiction along with the regular vehicles. The services of the pink patrol can be sought by contacting the toll-free number 181. The patrol vehicles were flagged off by Superintendent of Police S. Radhakrishnan at the District Police Office here on Thursday. The patrol will function under the special wing for Crime against Women and Children headed by Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police N. Loganathan. The wing deals with crimes against women, including female foeticide, female infanticide, acid attacks, molestations, rapes and honour killings, child abduction and child abuse.
