Govt to procure 3cr doses of COVID-19 vaccines with Tk 1,271.55cr 298 DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – The government will procure some three crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Serum Institute of India on emergency state purpose through Direct Procurement Method (DPM) with a cost of Taka 1,271.55 crore to effectively deal with this pandemic. The approval came from a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair. Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Kamal said the day’s meeting approved a total of eight proposals involving an overall cost of around Taka 2,059.42 crore. “Of the total cost, he said around Taka 1,870.82 crore will come from the government of Bangladesh portion while around Taka 188.60 crore from the local banking sources as loan,”

17th December, 2020 11:45:54 The virtual Summit between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi began on Thursday morning as the two time-tested friends look for joint celebrations of mega events in 2021 and stronger collaboration in post-Covid era. During the meeting, the two leaders are comprehensively discussing different bilateral issues, including further strengthening of cooperation in the post-Covid era. Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh and India signed seven bilateral documents, aiming to further strengthen the relations between the two countries. The instruments were sighed between the tow neighbouring countries at State Guesthouse Padma in the capital on Thursday. The two premiers on the virtual platform will witness the reopening of an old railway link, Chilahati-Haldibari rail route, after 55 years since it was snapped during the India-Pakistan war in 1965.

India promised to promptly and effectively deliver to Bangladesh the Covid-19 vaccines it is producing as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held a virtual summit yesterday. The two PMs also expressed their interest in expanding the already-strong bilateral and regional economic cooperation by improving connectivity while resolving existing issues, including water sharing and management and bringing down border killings to zero. Stating that Bangladesh is a significant pillar of India s Neighbourhood First policy, Modi said pharmaceutical companies on both sides have already arranged plans for supply of vaccines. The prospect of cooperation in production will also be explored, he added.
