Barn in northeastern South Dakota listed in National Register of Historic Places

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Mar 13, 2021 7:00 AM The Louis Nigg Barn near Sisseton in Roberts County was added to the National Register of Historic Places in March.   The National Register is the official federal list of properties identified as important in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, and culture. The State Historic Preservation Office of the State Historical Society works in conjunction with the National Park Service, which oversees the National Register program, to list the properties.   “South Dakota has a very rich history and culture ranging from prehistoric Indian villages and homesteader cabins to unique businesses and richly detailed historic neighborhoods – which are all wonderful testaments to our state,” said Ted M. Spencer, State Historic Preservation Officer and director of the State Historic Preservation Office.

Idaho has always had a very small population of Black Americans, but those who have chosen to settle in the Gem State have their own stories to tell.
