Covid-19: Maharashtra bans home isolation in highly infected districts

State Health Minister Rajesh Tope says, Covid Care Centres must be increased The Maharashtra government has banned home isolation of Covid-19 patients in 18 districts where the positivity rate is higher and has ordered the district administrations to increase the number of Covid-19 Care Centres.
State Health Minister Rajesh Tope while speaking to reporters in Mumbai said that there are 3,27,000 active patients in Maharashtra and the recovery rate is 93 per cent. He added that the positivity rate has come down to 12 per cent and the death rate is 1.5 per cent.
“There are 18 districts where positivity rate is higher compared to the positivity rate in the State. We have suggested during the review meeting of 18 districts that home isolation must be stopped 100 per cent and Covid Care Centres must be increased. With the third extension of Maharashtra’s lockdown-like restrictions ending on June 1, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope hinted that COVID-19 curbs in districts reporting a significant decline in cases could be eased.
Mr. Tope said restrictions could be lifted in a phased manner next month if the case positivity rate drops below 10%, and 50% of beds in the State are vacant. “A decision will be taken after a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray,” Mr. Tope said. 29,177 more recoveries
The State on Sunday saw 29,177 more patients being discharged as opposed to 26,672 new COVID-19 cases. The State’s active case tally has now dipped to 3,48,395.

Various civic bodies have deployed services of private operators to take Covid-19 inoculation drive at doorsteps of citizens, but these ‘Vaccination on Wheels’ drives are stuck in second gear due to the unavailability of vaccines.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday announced that it will be collaborating with startup MyVacc for mobile vaccination units and the first set of vans should be operational by next week. However, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope announced the suspension of vaccination of people in the 18-45 age group owing to a shortage of doses. Karnataka has made a similar announcement.

Conditions laid out in the lockdown will not be immediately relaxed: Health Minister
The Maharashtra Government has imposed a lockdown in the state to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The lockdown is expected to be extended for a few more days after May 15. A decision on this important issue is expected to be taken in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, said State Health Minister Rajesh Tope.
Tope interacting with media persons on Tuesday said that the Cabinet can only decide on the lockdown. The conditions laid out in the lockdown will not be immediately relaxed. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will take the right decision in this regard.
