Coimbatore Corporation has prepared a ₹ 175-crore plan to provide underground drainage coverage to those areas that it had left uncovered while implementing the Underground Drainage (UGD) scheme in 2010.
The Corporation had implemented the UGD scheme under the then JNNURM scheme.
Old city areas
Sources familiar with the development said the areas that would get the UGD coverage were Gandhi Managar, Thanneer Pandal, Ganapathy, Ondipudur, FCI Godown Road, Vilankurichi and a few others.
All the areas were part of the old city area of 60 wards.
As for the added areas, the Corporation was implementing a UGD project for those areas under the AMRUT scheme and the work was under way in Kurichi and Kuniamuthur.

Udupi, Jan 30: Members of Malpe, Kalmady and Vadambhadeswara wards of city municipal council (CMC) took the concerned government officials to task over the inordinate delay in the execution of Under Ground Drainage (UGD) work that falls under the limits of city municipality and Nittur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) works in the meeting that was held on Saturday January 30 at the Sathyamoorthy auditorium of city municipality. For the past many years, residents from Kalsanka to Kalmady are facing sewage water issues. In order to resolve this, an already tender for Rs 30 lac is called for a month ago, to purify sewage water and install pipeline for the same. Public of Adkadakatte and Nittur are facing inconvenience as the roads are dug in that area since a month. Black list the contractor immediately or let the city municipality itself take action on them

S.T. Somashekar went on an inspection-spree in city yesterday to review civic amenities in newly-formed layouts.
Somashekar first visited the 13 MLD capacity overhead tank built in Vijayanagar Fourth Stage for supply of water to the residents of the locality. As the officials explained that the height of the pumping motor fixed at the site was posing a problem for water supply, the Minister directed them to lower the level of the pump in accordance with the requirement. He asked the officials to finish the civil works needed for the purpose in a month.
After the inspection, the Minister interacted with members of the public, during which Vijayanagar residents poured out their grievances. The residents complained about indiscreet dumping of construction debris and other wastes along the Ring road passing through the layout, overgrown bushes and trees along the road which has posed problems for motorists, potholed roads and many other civic issues c

MANGALURU: Mangaluru city corporation (MCC) commissioner Akshy Sridhar on Tuesday launched Janaagraha’s MyCityMyBudget Campaign appealing citizens to submit inputs for the MCC Budget 2021.
The commissioner appealed to the citizens of Mangaluru to share their inputs on core areas they want the MCC Budget 2021 to be utilized.
MyCityMyBudget is an initiative by Janaagraha, a non-profit NGO, is collaborating with MCC in this participatory budget endeavour by collecting citizen inputs. Sridhar appealed to citizens of Mangaluru to use virtual or offline mode and share their views on budget priorities and opinions before 12 noon on January 22, 2021.
