The Government of India (GoI) and European Investment Bank (EIB) here today signed the finance contract for second tranche of Euro 150 million for Pune Metro Rail project through a virtual signing ceremony. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. Mr. Francisco Andre, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Portugal and H.E. Mr. Werner Hoyer, President EIB. Shri K. New Delhi, May 7 : The Indian government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on Friday signed the finance contract for second tranche of 150 million euros for the Pune Metro Rail project, through a virtual signing ceremony.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Portugal s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco Andre, and EIB President Werner Hoyer, with Additional Secretary, Economic Affairs, K. Rajaraman, signing the loan on behalf of India, and EIB Vice President Christian Kettel Thomsen, on behalf of the EIB.

The Government of India (GoI) and European Investment Bank (EIB) on Friday signed the finance contract for second tranche of Euro 150 million for Pune Metro Rail project through a virtual signing ceremony.
EIB had approved the total loan of Euro 600 million to fund the Pune Metro Rail project. The Finance Contract for first tranche of Euro 200 million was signed between GoI and EIB on 22.7.2019. The project aims to provide efficient, safe, economic and pollution-free Mass Rapid Transit System in densely populated area in the city of Pune served with heterogeneous traffic options.

Police told to allow passengers at check posts in city after they show ticket
The operation of long-distance trains and flights remained unaffected despite the total lockdown on Sunday in Chennai. While the lockdown brought life to a standstill in the city, a section of commuters who arrived by trains, faced difficulties in getting autorickshaws or taxis to reach their destination.
The city witnessed limited operation of public transport services of bus, metro and train, but the services were mostly for government staff. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) operated 100 services for conservancy and other staff of the Greater Chennai Corporation.
