The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) on Tuesday signed a contract to jointly invest in designing, constructing and finding an electric rail operation system to provide maintenance services to the Pink Line s 4-billion-baht Si Rat-Muang Thong Thani extension route.
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who presided over Tuesday s contract-signing ceremony, said this specific extension route of the Pink Line was approved by the government as part of its efforts to upgrade the mass rail transport system in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces. Electric rail transport will not only help boost the economy but it will also improve the quality of life for commuters while being environmentally-friendly, said Mr Anutin.

The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC) has asked the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases to be brought against the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) over the cancelled bidding for the western extension of the MRT Orange Line.
A source said on Tuesday that a lawyer representing BTSC had filed the petition against the MRTA and other parties on Monday for allegedly violating Sections 157 and 165 of the Criminal Code and Section 172 of the constitution s 2018 organic law on corruption suppression and prevention.
The BTSC claims the accused parties unlawfully changed the bidding criteria after a number of contenders, including itself, had already submitted their bids.

Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC) is not ruling out taking part in a new bidding process for the western section of the Orange Line electric train project.
BTSC chief executive Surapong Laoha-Unya said the company was waiting for a formal announcement by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), which decided to scrap the current process on Wednesday.
Mr Surapong said BTSC would take part in a renewed selection process if its terms of reference were open and fair.
He added, however, that the company s legal team was also assessing whether any financial damage had been caused by the MRTA s scrapping of the bidding and would consider suing the authority if it found that losses had been incurred.

Bidding for the construction of the western section of the MRT s Orange Line, which will run from the Thailand Cultural Centre to Bang Khun Non, has been cancelled following a legal dispute.
The decision was taken yesterday by the contractor selection committee of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA), the project owner.
The MRTA said it had indefinitely postponed the process to pick a contractor because the dispute on the bidding criteria was still far from resolved.
The western section of the Orange Line was designed to run underground for 13.4 kilometres to link the centre of Bangkok to the capital s western suburbs.
