Hip Hop 50 will span unscripted series and features, podcasts and digital shorts by and about some of the most well-known names in the genre. The initiative is driven by Mass Appeal partner Nasir “Nas” Jones and chief creative officer and partner Sacha Jenkins, who was writer, director and producer of the Emmy and Peabody-nominated Showtime series

On Wednesday (May 19),
Variety reported Nas and Jenkins are celebrating Hip Hop’s birthday with
Hip Hop 50, a documentary series highlighting the culture’s rich history and diving deep into the subcultures birthed through the years.
“There are so many more stories,” Nas told
Variety. “I’m opening up with this, but
Hip Hop 50 is a multi-tier initiative, created by
Mass Appeal [in partnership with CBS Viacom], and we built this platform to ensure the anniversary of hip-hop is celebrated in a real iconic way, and that everybody should be involved with this.”
