Red tape reduction necessary to boost WA’s mineral exploration and job creation
The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) welcomes the State Government’s announcement to expand its red-tape reduction team, which will support the sector’s efforts to create more jobs for Western Australians.
CME Chief Executive Paul Everingham said the allocation of funding for more than 150 frontline officers across five agencies will relieve pressure on WA’s booming resources sector by speeding up project approval times while safeguarding environmental and heritage outcomes.
Mr Everingham said investment in exploration and efficient approval processes are critical to the mining sector, particularly during this current period of significant growth.

CME welcomes $6 billion Chevron investment decision
The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA (CME) welcomes today’s announcement by Chevron of a $6 billion investment in subsea compression technology that will help ensure the Gorgon project continues to supply gas to customers in WA and Asia for decades to come.
The final investment decision by Chevron Australia and its joint venture participants will help maintain long-term supply from the Jansz-lo gas field and will enable the future tie-in of other fields within the Greater Gorgon Area.
It would be the biggest capital investment by Chevron Australia since Gorgon Stage 2 in 2018.
