By Neale McQuistin The National Sheep Association, while recognising the ambitions of the UK Government’s Action Plan for Animal Welfare, has spoken out against some of the plans for legislative change contained in Queen’s speech on Tuesday. Key areas covering animal welfare, alongside focused actions in the Environment Bill to protect nature, are of particular concern to the sheep industry’s leading body. NSA chief executive Phil Stocker said: “There were both welcome and unwelcome intentions outlined within the Queen’s Speech and as is often the case the devil will be in the detail as these Bills get developed.

Part funded by a grant provided by Killgallioch Community Benefit Fund, the event is being held to showcase what membership offers to semi, and fully retired people, and to recruit more members
Organisers are putting on a mixed programme of free digital and socially distanced physical events for both members and the general public to celebrate its benefits during the day, which also falls during National Volunteers Week.
Pupils from Wigtown Primary will also be joining in the fun by painting pebbles blue and yellow with the u3a’s strapline - learn, laugh, live.

NSI is run by a small, but friendly group with lots of plans to make Newton Stewart a better place to live and work.
Any income made from the shop, which will be open every day expect Wednesday and Sunday from 10am-4pm, goes straight back into the community
Volunteer Linda Woodfield said: “We are fully stocked and look forward to welcoming customers back, and we have lots of quality items for sale at affordable prices. We are also very happy to accept donations of clothes, bric a brac, household goods etc.
