Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says his department is still working on two separate cases involving the attempted burglary or theft of an automatic teller machine at a Burkeville bank. The crimes happened during the early morning hours of Monday, April 26th and Sunday, May 2nd at Sabine State Bank on State Highway 63.
So far one person has been arrested, a warrant has been issued for another, and a pickup truck that was stolen out of Houston has been recovered.
Following the first incident, deputies were able to track down and arrest 38-year-old Billy Dewayne Adams. He is still in the Newton County Jail under a $75,000.00 bond.
More information has been released regarding the attempted burglary of an ATM in Burkeville Texas on Monday.
According to Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby, 38 year old Billy Dewayne Adams is still in the Newton County Jail where he is being held on a $75,000 bail.
The other suspect has been identified as Leo Burt Mitchel, 40,and is still at large. Mitchel is believed to have stolen a dark gray, 2017 Ford F-150 pick up truck bearing Louisiana license plate C0549061.
Sheriff Burby said both suspects lived in and around Natchitoches and Florien, LA and it is believed Mitchell might be hiding there.

At 0540 hours, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a theft of an ATM machine in Burkeville. A passing motorist observed a small compact vehicle attempt to pull the ATM machine at the Sabine State Bank off it stand.
They damaged the ATM and fled the parking lot on Hwy 63 and turned north on FM 692 toward RE 255. The vehicle was accompanied by two white males, one wearing a ski mask, and the other was observed without a mask.
The caller advised that the vehicle came to a stop on a bridge just past CR 2121.

NEWTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Billy DeWayne Adams, accused of attempting to steal an ATM, was arraigned and charged Tuesday.
Adams, 38, is charged with Theft of Property less than $300,000 with a bond amount set at $75,000. He is in custody in the Newton County Jail, and is one of two suspects authorities believe are responsible for stealing an ATM at Sabine State Bank on Highway 63 in Burkeville on Monday.
