Niall Colgan who owns a salon on O Callaghan Strand says extending the 9% VAT rate will be essential for the survival for some businesses.
It was claimed this week there are multiple people providing hairdressing services on the black market in Limerick.
But Niall says despite this, he s confident that when salons reopen, people will want a more professional service.

Hairdressers and barbers have been told they will be prioritised for reopening next month after the government was presented with an economist s report calling for prolonged VAT concessions for the sector.
The report by Jim Power also calls for a grant for businesses to support them reopening.

A Limerick hairdresser has offered free haircuts for clients he deems essential, despite level 5 restrictions.
Niall Colgan says he’s willing to go to jail if it means he can cut some peoples hair.
He says they include clients whose hair is growing back after chemotherapy and those with various disorders including alopecia and trichotillomania (PR: try-co-till-o-mania) – where someone pulls their hair out.
