FHS graduates earn over $2 million in scholarships

FAIRBORN A total of 241 students from Fairborn High School will walk across the stage and receive their diplomas at the Wright State University Nutter Center this Friday.
The class of 2021 has earned more than $2 million in scholarships from 25 universities. Fairborn graduates will also be enlisting into the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine Corps, and Air National Guard.
“We are proud of the class of 2021,” Fairborn High School Principal Brian McKnight said. “They have been a part of an incredible journey and this year is no different. As a class, they have endured challenges and obstacles unlike any other and yet they continued to thrive, learn, and make the best out out what they were handed. They refused to quit and because of that, they continued putting one foot in front of the other until their goals were met. FAIRHAVEN Media arts students have not only pushed on throughout the pandemic but have taken inspiration from their own experiences and turned them into the script for a new project.
Fairhaven High School received 10 nominations and eight awards from the 2021 New England Regional Student Production Awards.
Senior Charlie Fernandes set a new record of receiving seven awards for his work.
To reflect back on his four years of his high school career in film and media, Fernandes created a college application in the form of a video called, Who am I? which followed his journey as a young child to graduation and his early interest in filmmaking. When answering the common college question of Who am I? he thinks back to why he chose film from the start and all the home videos he created while growing up, but he realizes that he has become the successful creator he is today with the help of friends and family, always supporting his pursuit of happiness.

Pius X’s Markowski named Gatorade Player of the Year
The 6-foot-3 senior center led the Thunderbolts to a 25-0 record and the Class A state championship this past season. Markowski averaged 23.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, while converting 59.5 percent of her field goal attempts.

(Gatorade Press Release) In its 36th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Alexis Markowski of Pius X High School as its 2020-21 Gatorade Nebraska Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Markowski is the first Gatorade Nebraska Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Pius X High School.
