Mechanical Engineer
Salary: £31,931 to £34,709 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £3000 per annum is also available for this role.
Location: Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Harwell, Oxfordshire.

About the role
The ISIS Muon and Neutron Source has around 36 instruments, many of which require samples, neutron guides, beam absorbers and detectors to be moved remotely in a number of different geometric planes. To achieve this, mechatronics systems are used and these components are now vital to the success of many of the ISIS experiments. To help with maintaining and improving these mechatronics systems, the ISIS Design Division (IDD) now has a vacancy for a Real-Time Control Software Lead Engineer within the Electrical Design Group.
Within this role, you will be the lead technical engineer, working on both development and support of the real-time control software running on the ISIS EtherCAT Motion Control Units. The role will focus on improving the capabilities of this systems in new features and increased diagnostic capabilities. About the role
We have a new opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead the ISIS Design Division Electrical (IDDE) Safety Systems team. Within this role you will be responsible for the top level design, analysis and delivery of bespoke and optimised interlock systems protecting against ISIS facility hazards.
You will be required to direct and lead on functional safety strategy and policy and be responsible for providing full lifecycle, bespoke safety system solutions for ISIS. You will be the lead on designing any new functional and machine safety systems and be able to provide expert functional safety analysis and lifecycle guidance for existing ISIS facility safety systems. You will also be responsible for developing new safety system documentation and ensuring it is correctly rolled out and adopted by the ISIS team.
