NEW DELHI: The Centre has expanded the ambit of Bharat Biotech’s Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin by supplying it to seven new states in the middle of the first phase of public immunisation drive. However, Chhattisgarh said it would not use the vaccine till phase-3 trials are over. Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Gujarat, West Bengal, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh have each received 37,760 doses of Covaxin.

In Ranchi district that had the maximum active cases, the number went down to 495, below the 500-mark for the first time, though it accounted for 50.61 per cent of the total cases in the state.

Ranchi: As media circles remained abuzz with speculations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be vaccinated for Covid-19 along with chief ministers of various states in the second phase of the mass inoculation drive, the state s health department said there are no plans yet to inoculate VIPs in Jharkhand. “We have not received any such instructions or guidelines from the Centre as of now,” health secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni told TOI, adding that the department will adhere to the guidelines and SOPs on targeted beneficiaries in the second phase forwarded by the Centre. As per guidelines, frontline workers such as police, homeguard and paramilitary personnel will be administered the vaccine in the second phase.

Improper fire-fighting equipment at MGMMCH | Ranchi News

JAMSHEDPUR: Kolhan division s biggest state-run hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH), does not have proper fire fighting equipment. the district s fire-fighting department has revealed. During a recent inspection, a team from the department found the fire-fighting equipment of the healthcare institute were not updated after 2013. Members of the team said a small fire-fighting system was installed in 2013 but it cannot handle major fires. They further said it would be difficult to reach every corner of the hospital in case of a fire as the approach roads and height of the entrances are very low. The entrances are only 12-feet high instead of the required 16 feet, a team member said.
