Ludhiana: In continuation of its actions against duty evasion, Ludhiana-based zonal office of directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) has seized 10 containers at inland container depot, Dhandari Kalan.
According to sources in the department, the action which started on Friday was ordered by additional director general Nitin Saini and the containers were imported by two firms, one of which is based in Ludhiana while the other is located in Khanna.
Sources also revealed that the containers have been seized as they were shown to have been containing scrap, but instead eight of these were found laden with CRGO (cold rolled grain oriented) sheet while two containers were found to have been stuffed with empty industrial cylinders. There is prohibition on import of both these items.

LUDHIANA: A day after seizing a huge cache of imported sports shoes and other wrongly-declared goods worth over Rs 1 crore, Ludhiana-based zonal unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized two containers that were lying at Container Freight Station, Overseas Warehousing Private Limited, (CFS-OWPL), Ramgarh.
These two containers were said to be carrying scrap, but more than 100 multifunction printers (MFPs) of leading brands were found stuffed inside.
As per the preliminary investigation by the department, so far 72 MFPs have been found in one container and the examination of the other was on till the filing of this report. The value of the confiscated goods as of now was reported to be around Rs 1 crore, but would increase as it was being suspected there were 150 MFPs in both the containers.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized banned photocopy machines worth crores after searching two containers, which came from Dubai.
Three months ago, on the orders of Additional Director General, DRI, Nitin Saini, Ludhiana officials had confiscated the containers for evading custom duty.
Patiala-based firm Khalsa Enterprises had kept these containers at Container Freight Station (CFS), Ramgarh, and had not got them released since December 27, 2020.
In the papers it was mentioned that the containers were containing metal scrap but when the same were checked, they contained metal scrap on the top but under them, there were 60 old photostat machines. This is known as e-waste and it is illegal to be brought into the country. The market value of the machines is worth crores. The department will also be searching the past records of the company.
The container had goods like sports shoes of leading brands, earphones and button cells, among other things, valued at over Rs 1 crore.

Instead, the container had other goods like sports shoes of leading brands, earphones and button cells, among other things, valued at over Rs 1 crore.
A Ludhiana-based firm had imported the container and it had arrived at an inland container depot near Kila Raipur.
Highly-placed sources in the department said on a tip-off, a team of the department, under the leadership of additional director general Nitin Saini, was tracking this container for the past two months after it departed from China.
