New Nissan 400Z Spied With Hood Up - The Truth About Cars

New Nissan 400Z Spied With Hood Up In photos obtained by japanesenstalgiccar.com,  the Nissan 400Z prototype is seen with its hood propped open, and there it is, a 400 horsepower, twin-IHI turbocharged, VR30DDTT V6 engine. First available in the Infiniti Q50 sedan, a year later in 2016 it was also in the Q60 coupe in 300 and 400 HP versions. The VR30DDTT has an aluminum block and cylinder heads, direct-mount turbos with integrated exhaust manifolds to decrease weight, and an electronic wastegate actuator. There’s also a lightweight resin intake and lower oil pan, an electronically-controlled variable-displacement oil pump, and twin water-to-air intercoolers with two water pumps.

Is that the VR30 engine in the Nissan Z Proto?

The Nissan Z Proto has been caught with its bonnet up, essentially confirming what we all expected anyway; the VR30 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 from various other Nissan and Infiniti models. An eagle-eyed Nissan fan noticed the Z Proto, which was unveiled last year, at the Nissan Crossing in Tokyo with its bonnet up. The fan then posted some photos up onto Instagram to give us all a sneak peek. It appears as though workers are preparing the concept, potentially giving the car a detail so it’s ready for showcase. Although the photo is from a distance, the engine sitting within does resemble the VR30 found in the Infiniti Silver Sport and Red Sport models. The position of some of the piping and the three coolant caps are exactly the same as those found in the Infiniti models – both the Silver Sport and Red Sport engines appear identical under the bonnet (Q50 Red Sport engine shown below).

The Test Car Nissan And ItalDesign Used To Develop the GT-R50 Is On Display In Tokyo

Nissan will, from January 12 to March 31, display the test car used to develop the GT-R50 by Italdesign at Nissan Crossing in Tokyo. The space is a fancy showroom, perfect for showing off the car used to develop a million dollar supercar. According to Nissan, the car was used on circuits to test chassis rigidity and durability. It was also used as a rig to test some of the car’s carbon fiber parts and the rear wing. With just 50 GT-R50s being built, this is a really nice look into the development process of a supercar based on one of the most impressive cars of the last decade.
