Mauritius Telecom Network Operator Emtel has provided the only landing point for the METISS (Meltingpot Indianoceanic Submarine System) fibre optic cable in the country. The 3,200 km cable connects Reunion Island, Madagascar and South Africa to Emtel’s ANSI/TIA tier 3 certified data centre in Arsenal, near Port-Louis, the country’s capital. “METISS is already connected to many global public cloud services, application providers and African exchanges with fully redundant backhaul in Mauritius and South Africa,” said Kresh Goomany, CEO of Emtel. “It provides global telecoms organisations, multinationals and enterprises with interests in connected regions, with the reliable services and capacities they need for telecommunications that empower digital enterprises. The whole offer comes with a world-class quality of service (QoS) at very affordable prices.”

Telkom Kenya to develop youth focused e-wallet for financial inclusion

Known as ‘Fursa’, (Swahili for opportunity) the platform will allow the council to disburse funds to youth conveniently, faster, securely and timely. This solution will increase the youth’s resilience in the midst of physical and infrastructural barriers that obstruct their access to financial services and products. The Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Kenya estimates that 23% of the 18-25 year-olds are excluded from financial services and products and that financial services providers have no solutions targeted at youth. Fursa will be customised to contain additional capabilities: a membership management system, financial reconciliation, savings and investments, experience board for job matching and e-learning as well as experiential skill development.

Truecaller launches anti-fraud enterprise solution for businesses

Truecaller has introduced a new identity solution for businesses to bolster safety and eliminate fraud. The enterprise solution dubbed Truecaller Business Identity allows businesses to verify their identities using a green verified business badge, accurately presenting the name, photo and the logo of the organization. Truecaller says the new solution brings greater trust and efficiency in communication between businesses and clients as it gives confidence to consumers, knowing that the caller is a verified business by Truecaller. Apart from the green Caller ID and green Verified Business badge, a verified business on Truecaller gets a verified tick mark icon and can lock their brand name and profile photo. This lets consumers know exactly which calls to trust. Importantly, consumers will continue to see the number of spam markings as usual, and they retain the right to mark verified numbers as spam or block them completely.
