The ball pythons Jerry, Cyndi, Huey and Lita, to name a few are named after ‘80s rockers. For the sand boas  Bo, Daisy, Luke and Jessie it’s the Dukes of Hazzard. The structure, just 20 feet from Dr. Finch’s front door, is one half of Snake Haus the only nonprofit animal sanctuary in Washington and Idaho known for specializing in snakes. Fully insulated and equipped with power, the sanctuary, and Dr. Finch (’01), an exotics veterinarian at Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, are a lifeline for the snakes.

Tortoise Comes Up Aces Gamera, Tortoise With A Caster At Washington State University veterinary teaching hospital, the Doctors had to amputate the front leg of a tortoise recently.  They showed their ingenuity when they found a new artificial limb that was just the right size – a caster from Ace Hardware. “…The caster-style wheel cost around $7, according to the two veterinarians who installed it on the tortoise after amputating the reptile’s damaged left front leg. “We got several sizes to find the right height,” said Dr. Nickol Finch, of the WSU veterinary teaching hospital. The epoxy that attached the wheel to the tortoise’s shell was also purchased at Ace, she said. The 23-pound tortoise, named Gamera, was shown to the public Thursday.
