Kansas elementary students take part in ISS plant growing experiment

Beth Kornegay/Special to the Times Basehor-Linwood elementary schools are taking advantage of Linwood Elementary School teacher Lisa Turney’s role as an Astro moji mission specialist working with a science experiment currently taking place at the International Space Station. Turney was selected from more than 550,000 participants to virtually teach about a science experiment involving red clover being grown 250 miles above Earth on the ISS.  Those seeds were sent via the NG-15 Cargo Resupply Mission which launched Feb. 20 and will return in May. The purpose of the experiment is to achieve effective plant growth in space for long-term space travel, including a potential colonization of Mars.

Burke County Man Receives Minimum 28 Year Sentence In Double Murder Case Brian Jerome Robinson Burke County Man Receives Minimum 28 Year Sentence In Double Murder Case April 13, 2021 37-year-old Brian Jerome Robinson of Connelly Springs will spend 28 to 35 years in prison following his conviction for two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon during Burke County Superior Court Monday (April 12). Robinson was given the active prison term by the Honorable Casey Viser, Superior Court Judge from Mecklenburg County, after he entered a guilty plea in connection with the September 2016 deaths of 29-year-old Spencer Jermain Murray and 35-year-old Albert Alexander Austin. Robinson is one of four co-defendants in the double murder. Two others – Icey Chenell Gooden and Brandy Nicole Davis – already have entered guilty pleas for their involvement and are serving active prison sentences.

Blended Learning Using Peer Mentoring and WhatsApp for Building Capacity of Health Workers for Strengthening Immunization Services in Kenya

JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. Innovative learning strategies outside of formal classroom trainings are needed to improve frontline health workers competencies for achieving immunization coverage goals that have become more important now during the COVID-19 pandemic. Immunisation training for healthcare providers has until recently predominately taken the form of classroom-based lectures. Increasingly, however, learner-centred education methods are being used to encourage active participation and learning, with the traditional lecture method complemented by need-based, individualised, and interactive immunisation capacity building that doesn t disrupt healthcare workers regular duties and that strengthens networking and communication among nurses.
