Goodwill Industries of Kentucky to help unhoused population with jobs

In an effort to connect Louisville s homeless population with more services, a van funded by Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is set to hit the streets in a program that would transport participants to job sites in exchange for stipends, housing and other services.  The initiative, Another Way, is an eight-week program that begins Tuesday and will run through May.  A van will travel through the city, attempting to move unhoused people from streets to job sites to perform tasks, such as landscaping, trash pickup and assisting with COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Those who participate will receive a $50 stipend for five hours of their time.

At the same time, we have people throughout our city who have urgent and immediate needs that they got to deal with today in many cases, had to deal with yesterday. That s because in the last months let last 11 months, we ve seen businesses closing their doors, some temporarily, some permanently and many others severely cutting back their staff. Local law firm donates 209 pairs of shoes to Laramie County kids in need

CHEYENNE – Active, thriving kids wear out and outgrow their tennis shoes quickly. But not every parent in Laramie County has the money to buy their children new shoes when they need them. In an effort to fill that need, local law firm Hirst Applegate, LLP started the Kicks 4 Kidz campaign three years ago, in which the firm donates new athletic shoes for school children in both of Laramie County’s school districts. “It started out as a way to give back to the community,” Amy Hodges, administrator for the law firm, said. “We looked for things that were necessary and we had some people who were involved with elementary and middle school-aged kids and we found out that often they don’t have shoes to participate in physical education – that’s where we stepped in.”
