Church Point Man Accused in Infant s Drowning Death

A man is facing negligent homicide charges after St. Landry Parish sheriff s deputies say an infant died while in his care. According to investigators, Nicholas Ducote left his two-year-old and nine-month-old children in a bathtub while he went into another room to fold clothes and play video games. Investigators say Ducote checked on his children a short amount of time later after hearing a splash. That s when, investigators say, Ducote found the nine-month-old unresponsive in the water. Ducote called a relative and emergency services for help, but the child died. The two-year-old was not injured. The coroner ruled that the nine-month-old died as a result of an accidental drowning.
