Communication might be the real issue at Peenaquim

Communication might be the real issue at Peenaquim Poll Yes After a week away from the office, I’m back in the saddle. And during that week, due to letters I’ve seen and discussions I’ve had with people, the disc golf course planned for Peenaquim Park was on my mind a lot. I made a rare visit there with a friend two Sundays ago with his dog and Benson, my black lab. The day we were there, the park was busy with people wandering all areas of Peenaquim. As we walked and I tried to keep Benson from amorously harassing Bruce’s dog Dexter – sorry Ben didn’t bring flowers and chocolates – I wondered how the golfers and dog walkers are going to co-exist when the park is filled with both.

Someone even called me a slave : Lethbridge students highlight racism in city schools

LETHBRIDGE, ALTA. They gathered at Nicholas Sheran Park after school to relive some of their most painful experiences. The students from Lethbridge public and separate high schools say it s time to tackle racism head on.  It s been going on for a little bit too long said Benedicte Amititi. The Catholic Central High School student can remember being called a slave in junior high school and says she now deals with racism almost every day in high school. She s not alone.  Tagjok Akorkwag is an alumnus of  Catholic Central High, who said she remembers, Just coming to school every day just to be called the N word and made fun of constantly.

Lethbridge families embrace the cold, or head online, for Family Day

LETHBRIDGE, ALTA. It was a strange Family Day in Lethbridge with all in-person family events cancelled due to health restriction, most notably  the University of Lethbridge’s ‘Play Day’ event. Fortunately, in a pandemic-worthy pivot, the U of L decided to not only host it online, they also expended it a week, and in doing so changed the event s name to ‘Play Week’. “For 10 years we’ve been able to provide a venue for families to gather on Family Day and celebrate being together in a play atmosphere,” said Dr. Mike Mahon, U of L president and vice-chancellor. “We obviously can’t supply the venue this year, but the essence of play isn’t confined to a specific place, it’s the act of play that matters, wherever you are.”
