  WATERLOO On the back of the provincial announcement that universities and colleges should prepare for a mostly normal fall, post-secondary institutions in Waterloo Region are working to finalize plans for a post-pandemic semester. Local colleges and universities are looking to increase in-person attendance this September, but not by much. Probably we won t have more than I would say seven or eight thousand, not the 25,000, because I don t think we ll be able to meet public health guidelines, said Conestoga College president John Tibbits. At Conestoga College, thousands of students have still been learning in-person, with hands-on training a necessity for many skilled trade classes.

Waterloo Region reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at two day camps

KITCHENER A concerning COVID-19 trend has emerged this week in Waterloo Region. There are currently two outbreaks at day camps, affecting children who are not eligible for the vaccine. One of those camps is at the University of Waterloo’s Columbia Icefield. “During the week public health let us know that we had two cases confirmed at one of our hockey day camps,” said Nick Manning, the Associate Vice-President of Communications at the school. On Friday, public health also confirmed more COVID-19 cases at a separate day camp. They say they will release details about that second outbreak Saturday.
