Mayor of Burnham and Highbridge honoured to be re-elected for second year

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor Mike Facey was re-elected to his role for a second year by members of the Town Council on Monday night (May 10th) during the Annual Town Council Meeting. It was the council’s first first face-to-face public meeting for 13 months due to virtual meetings being held during the pandemic. Councillors also selected Cllr Andy Hodge as Burnham and Highbridge’s Deputy Mayor and Nick Tolley as Second Deputy Mayor, as pictured above. During the meeting at King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge, Cllr Facey said he would continue to work cross-party, adding: “Thank you for everyone’s support during a challenging year. It’s an honour to be re-elected as Mayor for a second year.”

Town Council objects over Highbridge Asda store s plan for 24-hour deliveries

Town councillors have objected against plans by Asda in Higbridge to introduce 24-hour deliveries amid concerns about late noise. The supermarket in Caxton Road, Highbridge has applied for a ‘variation of hours conditions’ to allow 24-hour deliveries, as first reported here. At the latest Town Council planning applications committee meeting, councillors voted to object against the plans on the grounds that the original delivery times were in place to protect local residents. Restrictions were placed on the store when it was originally built to safeguard local residents from late night noise – but Asda says it wants the option of making deliveries 24 hours a day to cope with peaks in demand from shoppers.

Connacht have no reason to fear much-changed Leicester at Welford Road

Image: Laszlo Geczo/INPHO A QUICK GLANCE at the Leicester Tigers team named to play Connacht today [KO 8pm, BT Sport] tells you everything you need to know about their approach to this game. Leicester do not see themselves as a Challenge Cup side. This will be only their 10th ever outing in the competition. Connacht, on the other hand, have played 126 games in European Rugby’s second-tier tournament. At the moment, this is Connacht’s level, and a win today would harden their belief that they can finally come out on top in a competition they have been so synonymous with down the years.
