Salvatore Tavano completes a double in incident packed second Monza race

Scuderia del Girasole driver Salvatore Tavano made the most of a race with three safety car interventions to claim his second victory of the season opener at Monza at the wheel of his Cupra Leon Competición.
Sunny skies and a dry track welcomed the TCR Italy field for Sunday’s Race 2, with ALM Motorsport’s Mattias Vahtel, at the wheel of a Honda Civic Type-R TCR, on the reversed grid pole position.
At the start Vathel kept the lead, with Jonathan Giacon, driving a Honda Civic Type-R TCR from Tecnodom Sport, and Antti Buri, with a Hyundai i30 N TCR from Target Competition, coming side-by-side at Turn 1, with the Finn going straight but not giving up attacking the leader at La Roggia.

Scuderia del Girasole driver Salvatore Tavano stormed to victory in a wet first race of the TCR Italy season opener at Monza behind the wheel of his Cupra Leon Competición,.
At the start Eric Brigliadori was slow off the line, with Tavano going side-by-side with the polesitter. Matteo Poloni managed to not lose traction but it would be Igor Stefanovski, driving a Hyundai from AKK Stefanovski, who took the lead at the first chicane, ahead of Poloni and Jonathan Giacon in a Honda Civic Type-R TCR.
Tavano attacked Giacon on the main straight to take second place and Poloni went straight on at the first chicane, with Aggressive Team Italia’s Kevin Ceccon, at the wheel of a Hyundai i30 N TCR, taking advantage of the various incidents to climb to third place.
Antti Buri joins Target Competition in TCR Italy

Reigning TCR Germany champion Antti Buri is going to drive for Target Competition in the TCR Italy championship this season.
The Finish driver is going to join team-mate Nicola Baldan, with the duo driving a pair of Hyundai i30 N TCRs.
Buri drove for Team Engstler in TCR Germany last year, claiming the title after scoring four victories and a total of nine podium finishes.
The TCR Italy season starts next weekend at Monza.
