The Union Education Ministry has asked all centrally-funded educational institutions to postpone their offline examinations scheduled for May. The decision is likely to affect entrance examinations that were to be conducted for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and central universities (CUs).
In a letter to all such educational institutions, Higher Education Secretary Amit Khare urged to delay the offline examinations in May. He further clarified that online examinations may continue as planned.

Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, who is also the minister of higher education, made it clear on Monday, that it would not be possible to conduct examinations through online mode.
While speaking to reporters after convening a meeting in view of the spurt in COVID-19 cases, he said, that there was demand from some students and parents to conduct examination through online mode. But he said, It would not be possible to conduct
online exams in the present system. Examinations will be conducted in offline mode only and only a few deemed universities may be able to conduct exams through online mode. But it will not be possible in the government set-up.”
